Community Connector

Do you enjoy building relationships, spotting opportunities, and bringing people together?

This role is all about connecting Council with the people of the Manawatū District. You'll be out in the community, listening, building trust, and helping turn ideas into action, while feeding insights back into Council planning and decision-making.

We're looking for someone who understands how to work with a wide range of people and can help ensure community voices are reflected across Council.

What you'll do

  • Build strong relationships with social and community service providers, iwi, schools, and community groups
  • Connect people and ideas together to develop sustainable services in our community
  • Gather insights from across the district to inform planning and decision-making
  • Identify community needs, gaps, and opportunities
  • Work across Council teams to ensure community perspectives are understood and considered

What you'll bring

  • Experience in community development, engagement, or a similar field
  • Experience in working with diverse groups to work together to develop services and programmes
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to engage with diverse communities, including Māori and culturally diverse groups
  • Confidence gathering and sharing insights to inform planning and decision-making
  • Ability to work independently across different locations, including some evening and community-based work
  • A proactive, adaptable approach and strong judgement when working with people
  • A current full driver's licence

The salary range for the role is $76,200 to $89,600 with five weeks' annual leave.
